It's July 1814 and a 16-year-old Mary Wollstonecraft was, along with 21-year-old Percy Shelley, eloping to France. In a rapid escape from London they head to Dover for a channel crossing. Such a crossing would normally take 3hrs however mid-crossing they encountered a storm and over the next several hours Mary and fellow passengers were subjected to fear of shipwreck. After a terrifying crossing the couple settle in France and Mary writes the foundation story of modern horror: Frankenstein. There are numerous claims to where she found inspiration. Well...
