- Small and medium-sized Edinburgh businesses who offer services of direct use to fringegoers, such as taxis, meals, convenience shops, souvenir and tourist-good shops.
- The non-Fringe attractions of the city of Edinburgh and of Scotland in general, such as walking or bus tours, museums, exhibitions, historic buildings and other attractions.
- Businesses marketing services to performers.
- Businesses marketing things fringegoers consume, such as drinks brands and places to eat/drink.
We don’t accept advertising from:
- Fringe shows
- Other fringe show programmers

Wee Blue Book Advertising
Our Wee Blue Book is actively distributed by every one of our shows and venues throughout the fringe along with their own flyers. For three weeks, 100s of shows take to the streets of Edinburgh and give out your advert. This year, we intend to print at least 60,000 copies of the WBB; more if extra shows join our programme before August.
Who will see it?
Free shows attract much the same audience as ticketed shows. Most fringegoers like to schedule a mixture, but in general, they are people who have a passion for the arts or looking for a good time or both. The average person who picks up a Wee Blue Book could be:
- Scottish or English tourists, mostly middle class
- Edinburgh residents
- International tourists
- British or international performers
- Students and casual workers in the fringe infrastructure

Online Advertising
During the 2024 fringe, this website was visited by 28,000 different users and 34,000 if you include 2 weeks either side. Over 1100 people visited it per day and each browsed multiple pages throughout the site as they searched for their next show.

How It Works
Advertisers can choose from 1 of 3 banner positions:
Above Show Listings

Below Show Listings

Show Listing Box

Each position is allocated up to 4 banner images from different advertisers. Every time the page loads, a position will display the next banner, rotating back to the first once the last is shown. This doesn’t mean an advert will only be seen by 1/4 of visitors because users viewed 3.3 pages per session on average in 2024.

Next, you choose the dates when you’d like to display your banner. This is flexible. It could be for the whole run, a week or between any 2 dates of your choice. We also offer advertising for the 2 weeks leading up to and 1 week after the fringe (8600 visitors in 2024) at a reduced rate.
Once you supply the artwork, it will be checked. It must be the correct format and dimensions as we are unable to modify it for you. If we think anything in your advert is in breech of the Free Fringe ethics, we might ask for a revision. After approval, it’ll be added to the website ready to be displayed on your given dates.
